Purported Taliban video claims responsibility for Afghan ambush that killed 10 French soldiers

An Arab satellite television station on Monday showed video clips purportedly from the Taliban claiming responsibility for an ambush in Afghanistan that killed 10 French soldiers three months ago.

Al-Arabiya TV said the Taliban released the video to dispute a claim by the Afghan militant group Hezb-e-Islami that its fighters were behind the Aug. 18 attack.

The authenticity of the video couldn't be verified. Al-Arabiya did not say how it obtained the video.

The clips showed armed men displaying IDs and badges that appeared to be from French soldiers. Several of the men were holding rifles and others were armed with rocket-propelled grenade launchers.

Although the ambush heightened concerns in France over involvement in the war, the French parliament voted in September to keep 3,300 French soldiers in Afghanistan.
